Dr. Burger is a specialist neurosurgeon performing cranial, spinal, peripheral nerve, and pain procedures. His main neurosurgical interests are neuro-oncology, trigeminal neuralgia, and spinal degenerative disorders.
He obtained his pre-graduate degree at the University of Pretoria in 1997. During his studies, he was awarded the Central Student Council Medal, the Johan Nel Floating Medal as well as the Johan Struthers Award.
His postgraduate specialization was overseen by The Colleges of Medicine of South Africa which also awarded him with the Brebner Award. He obtained his Fellowship of the Colleges of Neurosurgeons of South Africa in 2005.
Shortly after qualifying, he went into private practice at Life Wilgeheuwel Hospital. He is passionate about continued medical education regularly lecturing at AOSpine courses. He is also currently serving as the Officer Neurosurgery on the AO Spine South Africa council. He is also actively involved with the Spinal Association of South Africa where he served as treasurer since 2015 and became president of the society in 2020.
